Both Gubbio and Orvieto were originally Etruscan settlements but enjoyed spectacular flowerings under the Romans and during the Middle Ages. Gubbio is especially noted for its majolica pottery, and Orvieto’s incredible cathedral is one of the most perfect Gothic cathedral facades in Italy.
