Black History Month: The Highwaymen: Florida’s Black Landscape Artists
Loading Map....
The Florida Highwaymen were a group of 26 African American landscape artists. Because galleries in Florida would not display the works of Black artists, the Highwaymen developed a unique way to create and market their works: “fast painting” on wallboard then selling paintings door-to-door or from the trunks of their cars. Many of the vibrant paintings sold for $10-35. Today, prices are in the thousands of dollars. Call 239-252-7542 to reserve a seat.
